Italy > Greece > Paris - Day 1

Wednesday/Thursday Apr 15/16

Well, these trips to Europe do not get any shorter, and it seems to take ever longer to bounce back from a sleepless night and a nine-hour time difference.  The trip was uneventful, though we did note that British Airways is no exception to the trend of packing more people in.  On the flight from Heathrow to Rome on an Airbus A320, seats were skinnier and harder, more upright and with less leg/knee room – not comfortable, especially coming off an overnight from Vancouver.

But that too did pass and we were met by our driver who took us into the city by private car for just €40.

Typically, the entrance to our hotel (Hotel Italia on via Venezia) is a big 8ft high door on the street, down an old marble hallway, up marble stairs or a cage-type elevator to the first floor.  There we found very friendly and helpful staff, a small but comfortable room, clean and modern, and – at last – a comfortable bed!
