Italy > Greece > Paris - Day 23

Friday May 08  Paris

After breakfast we walked to the Musée d'Orsay along the river Seine. With stopping to take the odd picture it took us 35 minutes and we reached the museum just before opening time at 9.30. We had bought our tickets over the internet which saved us a good 15 mins. and went straight to the 5th floor to see the Impressionist collection. We took our time admiring and photographing a few of the pictures, especially some of the Monets. As we were finishing, it started to get busy so we stopped for a coffee and then continued down the various floors. What a beautiful building, a former railway station, to house the paintings and statues.

We then walked past the Louvre and the Tuileries gardens to Galleries Lafayette (one of three huge Paris department stores), by which time we were fairly hungry. We found the food department which turned out to be a huge area on two floors including a variety of restaurants to choose from.  It took us another 30 minutes to decide, by which time we were able to do the food justice and both cleaned our plates. After lunch we picked up a couple of items from the store before making our way back to the hotel for a rest and dinner.

Brian made a reservation at a restaurant on our street and food was 50% off with making the reservation through the internet. We had a lovely meal and the staff were very friendly with a lot of banter in French.  We had wanted to know the French word for ‘kettle’ so we asked one of the staff – which triggered five minutes of them all trying to pronounce ‘bouilloir’.
