Italy > Greece > Paris - Day 24

Saturday May 09  Paris

If Notre Dame is awesome, Sainte Chapelle, just behind it on the Ile de la Cité, is glorious.  The walls of the upper storey, which soars high overhead, consist entirely of stained glass windows separated only by thin gothic columns all still painted as they would have been when originally built.  Trying to photograph it in the crowd was not easy and I have not come close to doing it justice.  If you have been there you know whereof I speak – and if you have not then do not miss it if you find yourself again in Paris.

We were so impressed we splurged on two concert tickets for this evening, and stared again at the stained glass in the evening sunlight while listening to a small string orchestra play Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

In between we made our way by metro and foot to the Sacre Coeur basilica – a beautiful church high on the hill above Montmartre, but it was quite a hike to reach it.  We took the easy way down – on the Dotto train to place Pigalle in Montmartre, where we walked to the Moulin Rouge.  “Never in the field of human sexuality have so many toys been offered in such a short distance...”

We settled for an omelette!
