Italy > Greece > Paris - Day 7

We were up bright and early to beat the crowds and crossing the Rialto bridge reached St. Mark’s Square by 8.20 in the morning.  It worked – there were no more than a few dozen other early-birds and we were able to enjoy the surroundings in relative peace – including several depictions of the winged lion of Venice.

Never, never, never sit down at a café/restaurant in St. Mark’s Square and order coffee without first checking the menu!!  At €11 each we must have drunk Europe’s most expensive cappuccinos.

After soaking up the atmosphere around St. Mark’s we meandered back across town through little squares and over small ‘back-street’ canals.  They say the best way to get acquainted with Venice is to get lost in it, though it’s never hard to get your bearings.

Then it was time to rest the toe...
