South America - Day 21

Tuesday - Paraty

After a good night`s sleep and an excellent buffet breakfast we explored our surroundings.  We are in the centre of the old town, a pedestrian area with huge cobblestones.  It was very humid this morning and we, like everyone else, were walking very slowly.  Many we passed were walking towards the dock to pick up a boat to take them to a larger beach for the day, the last of Carnival.  Everyone appears to be most friendly, though I had one toddler stop and stare at my white skin until her mother yanked her away.  Apparently, the festivities won`t last so long tonight as most have to return to work tomorrow.

Correction – we were later told the party goes right through the night until morning with all wanting to make the most of the holiday.  At least Wednesday and Thursday will be quieter, if not cooler, though we have booked a boat tour for Wednesday so being out on the water may be a bit cooler.  Today was around 37 degrees plus a big dose of humidity.
