South America - Day 22

Wednesday - Paraty

After another excellent breakfast and a slow walk to the dock we sat on the boat for nearly an hour waiting for all the local tourists to join us.

We visited four islands, all beautiful with sandy beaches.  It was great when the boat was moving but very hot when we stopped.  We saw fish gathered around the boat when it stopped for those interested in snorkelling.  We had an excellent lunch of fish, rice (which seems to come with every meal) covered with a prawn sauce – it was amazing that such a lunch came out of a tiny galley for around 90 people.  Everything appeared to be prepared on the boat.

There was a musician on board, plus another musician who was a friend playing typical Brazilian music and some of the passengers were dancing the samba.  On the way back a couple of other passengers sang – one girl had a fantastic voice and she sang Stand By Me in English.  We had fun trying to communicate with various families, they were very friendly and everyone was having a good time, including us.

We saw one cruise ship anchored off shore and it was taking the tender around 30 mins to reach the dock in Paraty.  We went back to the same restaurant as last night, mainly because it was air conditioned and there was good food and an English menu!
